We ate out a lot with friends on weekends. Moong Dal Khichdi is a complete meal in itself. Made with rice and lentils, khichdi is healthy, wholesome and good for you!

Steps to make Restaurant style dal khichdi:
  1. Take moong dal, masoor daal and rice and soak it for half an hour.
  2. After half an hour wash dal and rice from water three times. Separate dal and rice from water with the help of strainer.
  3. Boil dal and rice together in a pressure cooker by adding salt, turmeric powder, ghee and 3 glass of water. Cover the lid and steam it for upto 2 whistles on high flame.
  4. After two whistles switch off the flame and let the steam comes out from the cooker. By the time chop onion, tomato and make a paste of ginger and garlic in a mixer grinder.
  5. Take a pan keep it on medium flame and put 1 tablespoon oil. Then add jeera and let it turn brown. Add dry red chillies and curry leaves in the oil.
  6. Put chopped onion in the oil and stirr it until it turns light brown. Then put ginger garlic paste and and tomato. Mix it and add red chilli powder and coriander powder. Let the tomato turn mushy.
  7. Transfer the onion tomato, masala in dal-rice. Add 1/2 cup of water to adjust the consistency and let it cook for 5 minutes until all the masalas get mixed with dal-rice. Switch off the flame and garnish it with chopped green coriander leaves.. Serve it hot.
