  8. Make ready 1 tbsp chopped curry leaves

  10. Prepare Salt (as required)
  11. Get 4 cups water
  12. Get Butter
  13. Prepare Oil
  14. Make ready Peanut chutney
  15. Take 1 cup roasted Ground nuts
  16. Take 3 chillies
  17. Get 1/4 th cup of coconut
  18. Get 7 garlic pods
  19. Make ready Tamarind 1/4th inch
  20. Take Salt
  21. Get For tempering
  22. Prepare leaves Curry
  23. Take 1 dry chilli (can be adjusted according to your taste)
  24. Make ready 1 pinch hing
  25. Get 1/4 th tbsp jeera
  26. Prepare 1/2 tbsp mustard
  27. Get Salt as required

The word 'Benne' literally means butter and as the name suggests, this delicious treat is definitely not for the faint hearted. Authentic Davangere benne dosa recipe explained here. Davangere benne dosas are different from regular dosas and tastes too good. Benne translates to butter in Kannada language.

Steps to make BENNE RAGI DOSA / BUTTER RAGI DOSA:
  1. In a bowl add ragi flour. Here I have shown the picture of my cup for measurement. I have measured all the ingredients in this cup only.
  2. Add 1 cup of rice flour in to the bowl
  3. Add the curd in to bowl. Make sure the curd has no lumps
  4. Now, add chopped Onions, coriander,curryleaves,jeera,ginger and green chillies and salt as required.Mix well with water. If the batter is too thick. Add extra half cup of water.
  5. Apply oil on tawa. Wipe extra oil with kitchen towel / cloth
  6. Once tawa is hot, just pour the batter twice on tawa. And pls be noted that you should not spread dosa on tawa like normal one. Batter has to be poured on tawa.
  7. Drizzle oil on dosa and Place small butter cubes on dosa
  8. Spread the butter on dosa. Let it cook on medium flame.
  9. Once the dosa begin to get seperated from pan flip it to cook on other side
  10. Add roasted Ground nuts, chillies, garlic, tamarind, coconut and salt in mixer along with little amount of water. Make them all in to fine chutney
  11. In a kadai add oil. Once the oil is hot add mustard seeds.when the seeds splutter add jeera, red chilli,pinch of hing and curry leaves
  12. Tadda !!! Crispy and healthy dosa is ready to serve. Serve with peanut chutney/ coconut chutney.

Since good amount of fresh butter is used these dosas are called benne dosa or butter dosa. Davangere Benne dosa, where benne means plain white delicious butter which is slathered liberally on the dosa while it is being cooked.
